archipelago

— A dialogue between research and practice

archipelago is an international architectural practice with offices in Brussels, Leuven, Barcelona, and Paris. At the heart of its organization lies a constant dialogue between research and practice. We rebranded archipelago and designed a new website built around the concept of The Living Library.

The Living Library website features an custom developped AIpowered generative search bar that allows visitors to ask questions and receive tailored answers drawn from the site’s extensive database

Architecture / Research / Structure

The guiding principle behind the visual branding is the ‘Living Library.’ More than just a design idea, it shapes the way the firm communicates across all touchpoints – from printed materials and digital presence to client interactions and internal documents. This principle acts as a blueprint that ensures consistency, coherence, and meaning in every expression of archipelago’s identity.

The graphic system of The Living Library is conceived as a flexible framework, much like a library itself, capable of accommodating the diversity of the practice’s disciplines. It adapts fluidly to different scales, formats, and expressions while maintaining a coherent identity.

The concept of research-driven architecture comes to life through a renewed tone of voice and distinctive illustrative elements, expressing the rigor of research while adding warmth. Together, they translate analytical thinking into a clear, humancentered identity that communicates knowledge with emotion and accessibility and clarity.
