Komono x Magritte

Creative Direction & Communication

Creative direction for specific collaboration with the Magritte Foundation. Campaign, product design and packaging.

Magritte Heritage

René François Ghislain Magritte was a Belgian Surrealist artist. He became well known for creating a number of witty and thought-provoking images. Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers’ preconditioned perceptions of reality. His imagery has influenced pop art, minimalist art and conceptual art. Komono approached the Magritte foundation as a natural thing : representing Belgium at its finest.

A collection homage

Using prints of 5 key paintings by the master for the wristbands, we also worked on an interpretation of surrealism for the design of the watch collection: one of the key design was to use mirrors as a key feature on the front of the watch as a reminder of ourself, the reminder that time is related to our own aging.

Visual Surrealism

To bring the collection to live for communication, we partnered with artist Matt Maitland to create a series of product illustrations to be shown during events & on POS. Using the ingredients of surrealism, these illustrations are playing with the brand codes & artists' codes and bring a new life through a different angle.

Brochure interpretation

Cutouts and selective print techniques were used to highlight the collection design: mirror foil, metallic inks and see-through cutouts stand out as a reminder of the exclusive Magritte collection.
